Erste Ausgabe der von Leibniz besorgten Edition von über 100 der wichtigsten erzählenden Quellen zur Geschichte Niedersachsens und des Welfenhauses von der Antike bis zum späten Mittelalter.
"Berühmte, sehr geschätzte Sammlung, welche für die niedersächsische Landesgeschichte und die welfische Hausgeschichte reiches Material bietet" (Potthast I, I, 89). - Enthält zudem auch Harzer Berggesetze und zahlr. Klosterchroniken etc. Die Holzschnitte in Band 3 sind Wiedergaben aus der Inkunabelausgabe von Bothos Cronecken der Sassen (1489). Die Texte teils in Niederdeutsch. - Ausführlich zum Werk siehe: H. EINBAND: Blindgeprägter Lederband d. Zt. über Holzdeckeln mit 2 Messing-Schließbeschlägen und Pergamentband d. Zt. mit handschriftl. Rückentitel. 34,5 : 20,5-21 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 17 Textholzschnitten. - KOLLATION: 21 Bll., 1004 S., 1 Bl.; 1 Bl., 1143, 56 S.; 5 Bll., 32, 2 (recte 12), 769, 248 S. - ZUSTAND: Leicht gebräunt und vereinz. fleckig, Titel zu Tl. 1 mit ergänztem Randausschnitt. Lederband an den Kanten beschabt, Gelenke eingerissen, bewegliche Schließteile entfernt, Pergamentband geworfen und verzogen. - PROVENIENZ: Titel und flieg. Vorsatzpapier von Tl. 1 mit Besitzeinträgen (1818 und 1830) und mit 2 Bibliotheksstempeln (Herzogl. Bibl. Braunschweig-Lüneburg - ausgeschieden). Titel zu Tl. 2 verso mit Bibliotheksstempel der Großherzoglichen Bibl. Neustrelitz (später Landesbibliothek Neustrelitz, wurde 1950 vollständig aufgelöst).

Contemp. vellum with handwritten title on spine and contemp. blindstamped leather over wooden boards with 2 brass fittings. 34.5 : 20.5-21 cm. - Inside only slightly browned, title to part I stained and with a backed marginal tear off. Lether binding scraped at the edges, joints torn, movable clasps removed, vellum bowed and warped. Title and flying endpaper from part I with 2 library stamps (Bibl. Braunschweig-Lüneburg, retired). Title to part 2 with library stamp of the Grand Ducal Bibl. Neustrelitz on the verso.
