Ohne Titel (Kopf eines Schafes). Um 1972.
Pen and ink drawing.
Verso signed. On wove paper. 23,7 x 19,5 cm (9,3 x 7,6 in), size of sheet.
An accident caused Moore to stay in bed with a broken leg and to give up sculpting for a couple of months, so he increasingly turned to graphic works. His studio was enlarged in order to have more space for turning drawings into graphic works. The sheep from the rural surroundings served as models. The high degree of naturalism in those sheets is surprising. But more felt absoultely save about this side of his creativity - for in the end even the most daring abstraction has its origin in a realistic conception. [EH].
