The watercolor in soft tones presumably shoes the Elbe river at Finkenwerder near Hamburg, where Max Liebermann spent several weeks in summer 1902. [KP].
This work's authenticity has kindly been confirmed orally by Dr. Margreet Nouwen, Berlin. We are grateful for her expert advice. The work will be included in the forhcoming catalog raisonné of Liebermann's pastels, watercolors and gouaches.
