Serviermädchen. 1890s.
Oil on canvas, laid down on board.
Signed lower left. 36,5 : 28,7 cm (14,3 : 11,2 in). Emil Brack begins his education as an artist at the Berlin Akademie, changing to Munich to study under Wilhelm von Lindenschmit the Younger. Study trips take him to Paris, Denmark and Italy, before finally settling in Munich around 1890. He is acknowledged for precisely expressed interiors, but mainly for his vital genre illustrations, which capture scenes from social and family life with a great love of the detail and psychologic empathy. [NB]

Good overall impression. Canvas irregularly trimmed. A little dust in the oval part of the frame, there the varnish slightly blunt. Slightly retouched in the margins, with occasional minor retouching in the area of the mouth and to the left of the figure.
