Erste deutsche Ausgabe. Mit der Faltkarte von Guiana, die hübschen Titelvignetten zeigen eine Karte der Karibik und eine Weltkarte mit der Route von Francis Drake. Die Textkupfer mit Szenen aus den Gebräuchen der Einheimischen, Begegnung mit den europäischen Entdeckern etc.
EINBAND: Neuer Halblederband. 35 : 25 cm. - ILLUSTRATION: Mit 2 (von 3) gestochenen Titelvignetten, 21 numerierten Textkupfern und 1 mehrfach gefalteten Kupfertafel. - KOLLATION: 4 nn. Bll., 56, 30 S.; 48 S., 1 Bl., 6 num. Bll. mit Textkupfern, 73 S., 1 Bl., 15 num. Bll. mit Textkupfern. - ZUSTAND: Überwieg. etwas gebräunt, Haupttitel gewaschen und mit Restaurierungen, fehlt der Zwischentitel Reyse des Edlen und vesten Thomas Candisch (hier durch Kopie ersetzt) mit kl. Weltkarte im Oval als gest. Titelvignette, 2 Bll. mit Textkupfer aus einem and. Exemplar ersetzt (1 lose eingelegt), ca. 3 Bll. mit Textkupfer in den Rändern mit Ergänzungen (tlw. mit Text- aber ohne Bildverlust).

First Geman edition of part VIII of the "Great voyages", important because of the early descriptions of the voyages of Walter Raleigh, Frances Drake and Thomas Cavendish. With 2 (of 3) engr. title vignettes (with map of the Caribbean and world map), 21 text engr. and 1 folding engr. map. Modern half calf. - Somewhat tanned, main title washed and with skilful restorations, lacking the intermediate title "Reyse des Edlen und vesten Thomas Candisch (here replaced by photocopy) with a small world map, 2 leaves with text engr. substituted from another copy (1 of which loosely inserted), ca. 3 leaves with text engravings with rebacked marginal defects, partly with loss of text (but not of illustration).(R)
