The original lithograph that served as basis was made by Pierre Roch Vigneron (1789-1872) around 1830 after the 1780 "Self-portrait" by Angelica Kauffmann (1741-1807), today in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. [AW].
• Striking work by the famous Austrian artist, who plays with covering and overlaying in his oeuvre.
• In 1978 and 1980, Arnulf Rainer represented Austria at the Venice Biennale.
• To this day, Rainer's overpaintings are considered the central principle of his work and an art-historically important contribution to European post-war art.
• Works from the 1980s are in important collections like the Museum Moderner Kunst, Vienna, the Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt a. Main, and the Bavarian State Painting Collections
