" With a sense of pride […] Ludwig Richter considered the young Eduard Leonhardi as one of his best students. [..] Richter fundamentally shaped Leonhardi's concept of landscape painting and art in general, as he sparked a fascination in Leonhardi for the picturesque beauty of the landscape around him, especially for the Saxonian and Bohemian region, which provided the most inspiration for the landscape artist Leonhardi. What Eduard Leonhardi learned from Richter was a careful observation of simple motifs, precise drawing of nature the 'poetic composition' of a painting in the studio." (Angelika Weißbach, Werkverzeichnis Eduard Leonhardi, Leonhardi-Museum Dresden, 1998, p. 17).
