• Particularly early work by the artist from the "Not Pollock" series, in which he reproduces Jackson Pollock's famous "Drip Paintings" with great appreciation and dedication.
• Mike Bidlo made a name for himself in the 1980s, in particular with performances and extremely precise reproductions of famous works of art from the 20th century, including works by Andy Warhol, Yves Klein and Jackson Pollock.
• Further performances followed in 1984, such as "Guernica: A Painting in Progress", in which Bidlo reproduced Picasso's famous painting in front of an audience over the course of four weeks.
• Together with Elaine Sturtevant, Louise Lawler, Sherrie Levine and others, Bidlo is one among the representatives of Appropriation Art, in which artists use existing works as homage or in the sense of art criticism
.

PROVENANCE: Galerie Bruno Bischofberger, Zürich.
Private collection Southern Gemany (acquired from the above).

"Basically, I see my work as a political act: an appropriation of the icons of modern art that I take away from the art world for myself (and others)."
