Manuskripte. - Četveroevanglie (Russ.: The four Gospels). Russian manuscript on paper.Ca. first half of the 16th century. 186 ll., with writing on both sides in red and black brown ink. Size of sheet ca. 30,5 : 20 cm, text area ca. 27 : 15 cm. 26 lines. - Contemp. wooden boards with grey brown silk cover, front board with 5 engraved silver badges (Evangelists and cruzifix), rear board with 4 silver corner bossings and with a silver armorial badge dated 1589 in center. Additionally with 1 brass clasp and tooled edges. Folio.
Early and rare manuscript of the Gospels in Cyrillic. Written in clean half-staves, that is the letters are not straight, but lean towards the right, in a cursive style. Each Gospel with a calligraphic opening line in red, the end of each Gospel with an index. -With 1 leaf at the beginning containing a longer entry by an old Russian hand, the year 1538 added by a later Russian hand at the side. Flying front endpaper with blindstamp (crowned "B"). - Somewhat fingerstained and waterstained, slightly stronger in places, 4 ll. with defective spots in the margin (mostly remargined, with slight loss nof printed matter), else just with small repaired marginal defects; gutter partly enforced, book block broken, rear inside joint loosened, binding with few small defective spots in the cover. All in all well-preserved manuscript in a decorative contemp. binding with silver fittings.
Early Russian manuscript: Gospel Book in Church Slavonic, 1st half of 16th century. 186 leaves. Sheet size 30,5 : 20 cm, 26 lines, red and darkbrown ink. Contemp. velvet over wooden boards, front board with 5 engraved silver plaques (apostles and crucifix), rear board with 4 silver bosses and armorial silver fitting on centre, dated 1589; 1 brass clasp and gauffered edges. - Some fingerstaining, partly stronger waterstained, 4 leaves with defective margins (mended, slight loss of text), else only here and there small mended marg. defects. Bookblock broken, partly strengthened in the gutter, rear inner hinge loosened, velvet covering with few small defective spots. In general well preserved manuscript in contemp. binding with engraved silver plaques.
