• A skeptical, ironic view of the present.
• In 1976 Werner Büttner, along with Albert Oehlen, founded the “Liga zur Bekämpfung des widersprüchlichen Verhaltens" (League for Combating Contradictory Behavior).
• He has been professor for painting at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg since 1989.
