"A colorist is a painter who thinks through the color and whose view is coined by the color."
E. W. Nay, Meine Farbe, 1967, quote after: Scheibler, p. 282.

"It is worth a life to go as far as to create a true color picture in which the color visualizes something humane without revealing the artist‘s intention, humane and creatural in new and unknown formulation." (E. W. Nay, October 1967, quote from: Scheibler p. 282). Nay‘s pictorial late period of creation is characterized by a radical simplification of forms and a clearly reduced palette of colors. Color chords, placed on the canvas in poised simpleness, create an optical dynamic that combines an impression of continuous motion with a calm and meditative aura. In the warm palette of "Goldblau" the dark, night blue parts serve as anchor point for the observer‘s and open the picture‘s spatial depth. Nay, who always sought new expressions of colors, takes the formal elements in the "Scheiben-" (Disc-) as well as the "Augenbilder" (Eye Pictures) to a whole new pictorial level.[JS]
