PROVENANCE: Private ownership Berlin (for around hundred years).

The painting "Szene aus dem Griechischen Freiheitskampf" (Scene from the Greek War of Independence) offered her, has been in private ownership of a Berlin family for around hundred years and was passed on within the family several times, the last time, however, without knowledge of its authorship. Only after the surface had been thoroughly cleaned the splendid colors, the fascinating details of the motif and Paul Emil Jacobs’ signature became visible again and the family was able to clearly identify the work as a painting by the artist from Gotha. The fact that this is one of his rare large-size, multi-figured oriental paintings makes this late rediscovery even more valuable.
