Hartmut Stielow studied sculpting at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin from 1977 to 1983, the same year he joined the master class of Bernhard Heiliger. Together with David Lee Thompson, Klaus Hartmann, Gisela von Bruchhausen, Klaus Duschat and Gustav Reinhardt he called the group ODIOUS to life in 1982. The steel sculptors worked together in a studio in Berlin for several years, they also showed their works in joint exhibitions. Stielow‘s preferred materials are steel and granite, which interact in his works. He subtly balances these different materials and forms a unity. From 1992 to 99 Stielow was teaching at the design academy in Hanover. After longer activities as CEO of the International Sculpture Center (ISC), USA, he started the sculpture network in 2004, which in a Non-Profit-Organization with the objective to foster contemporary three-dimensional art and to build a network of artists, agents and collectors.
